Intersections of Violence: Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Conference

Activity Image The three-day conference brings together law enforcement, prosecutors, victim advocates, child advocates, and other allied professionals to highlight promising practices and emerging issues to effectively respond to domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse in our communities.

This multidisciplinary conference is being sponsored by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, in partnership with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Services Council, the Virginia Victim Assistance Network, the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance, and the Virginia Victims Fund.

The conference will include several internationally and nationally known speakers such as Tonier Cain, Russell Strand, Roger Canaff, and Mark Wynn.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on April 12, and the opening session will begin at 8:30 a.m.

LODGING INFORMATION
Attendees requiring overnight accommodations at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott should call the hotel directly at (757) 627-4200 or central reservations at (800) 228-9290 and identify themselves as part of the "Intersections DV" group in order to receive the $91.00 State rate ($105.74 inclusive of tax) per night.

Reservations must be received by phone or on-line by Wednesday, March 22. Reservation requests received after this date will be accepted on a space and rate available basis.

Lodging attendees will receive a discounted self-parking rate of $10 per night, per vehicle (with unlimited in/out) by using the Main Street Garage, which is connected to the hotel. Complimentary continental breakfast will be provided daily for all conference attendees. Daily commuter conference attendee parking will also be in the Main Street Garage. The maximum daily parking rate (up to 24-hours) is $13.00.

COST AND REGISTRATION

SCHOLARSHIPS
Limited scholarships are available for the cost of registration and lodging. You must apply by February 22 to be considered. Scholarships will be given to law enforcement , child advocates and child welfare workers who demonstrate a need for financial assistance. You will be notified by March 6 whether you received a scholarship or not.

CANCELLATION POLICY
If you discover that you will be unable to attend the conference, please notify us in writing by March 29, by 5:00 p.m. via e-mail to julia.fuller-wilson@dcjs.virginia.gov. Without proper cancellation, registrants will be expected to pay the registration fee.
