Job Description / Responsibilities

The Bedford Police Department is seeking applicants for the position of Police Officer. Duties include enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as ordinances of the Town of Bedford. For a full job description, please click here.

The typical annual starting salary range for the position is $35,350.66 to $38,704.92, depending on experience.


Applicants must

  • possess, or be eligible to obtain, Virginia certification as a law enforcement officer;
  • pass a rigorous background investigation;
  • pass a physical agility test and a written aptitude test;
  • must pass a psychological and a physical examination.

Candidates with current Virginia law enforcement certification or who are currently attending pre-employment certification programs will be given preference. Qualified minority applicants are also strongly encouraged to apply.
