Job Description / Responsibilities

The Town of Bedford Police Department is seeking applicants for the position of Police Officer. Duties include enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as ordinances of the Town of Bedford. Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain Virginia certification as a law enforcement officer, must pass a rigorous background investigation, a physical agility and written aptitude test, a psychological and physical examination. Candidates with current Virginia law enforcement certification or attending pre-employment certification programs will be given preference.

  • At least 21 years of age;
  • U.S. citizen;
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Possess a valid Virginia driver’s license with a good driving record;
  • No felony or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude or domestic violence;
  • Good physical condition;
  • Vision must be 20/20 corrected or 20/60 uncorrected.

Salary & Benefits
Un-certified officers starting salary is $34,657 which increases to $36,390 after training.
Certified officers salary range is $36,390 to $51,418.
A career enhancement program is available as well that could increase pay by $2000.
