Job Description / Responsibilities

The qualified candidates shall possess the abilities necessary to respond to and investigate requests for police service including crimes in progress, traffic accidents and other incidents impacting the qualify of life in the community. In addition, the successful candidates shall be required to interact with other Department members, the criminal justice system and citizens in general with the highest level of professionalism and commitment to excellence. Successful candidates must be able and willing to work varied hours as determined by shift assignment as well as being subject to call-in for special events and emergencies.

Qualifications

21 years of age. High school graduate or GED, some college preferred. Zero or plus balance on driving record.  Able to possess a firearm in the Commonwealth of VA. Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation. Must be able to pass the law fit physical agility test. Must pass physical, psychological exam, drug screening, and polygraph test. Must be Virginia Certified Police Officer.

Salary: $36,821 – $52,681

Signing Bonus paid for Virginia Certified Police Officers:

  • 0-5 years of Virginia service - $3,000.00
  • Over 5 years of Virginia service - $5,000.00
