The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is currently seeking Airport Police Officers to join our team of highly qualified, professionally-trained Airport Police Officers for the Office of Public Safety’s Police Department.  Applicants must be willing to work at either Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to be considered for employment.  This is an excellent opportunity with great benefits!

Successful candidates will be considered for vacancies in one of two academy classes at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, located at 45299 Research Place, Ashburn, Virginia 20147.  Qualified candidates will either attend the January 2018 or July 2018 academy class.  Once candidates are qualified and offered a position, they will begin their careers with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority with orientation and academy preparation approximately one to two months prior to the start of each academy class.

Salary Range
P10 - $54,555 to $90,017

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. To be rated qualified for this job, an applicant must meet both of the MQs listed below at the time of vacancy announcement closure:

  2. A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).

  3. Be a citizen of the United States of America.

  4. Be at least 20 years and 6 months old.

  5. Possess a valid driver’s license.

  6. Be able to successfully complete the Field Training Program and obtain certification as a Law Enforcement Officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services after completion of Criminal Justice Academy training.

  7. Be able to obtain certification as a Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) Operator within 60 days of completion of Criminal Justice Academy training.

  8. Be able to obtain certification in firearms proficiency.

  9. Be able to successfully complete a background investigation which includes a full employment history check, a credit check, a criminal history records check, and a driving records check.

  10. Be able to pass a comprehensive medical examination including drug screening and a vision standard.

  11. Be able to successfully pass a written cognitive ability test, a physical ability test (PAT), a psychological examination, and a polygraph examination.

  12. Must have uncorrected vision not worse than 20/100 unless wearing soft contact lenses. Vision must be correctable to 20/20. Must be able to identify colors.

Preferred Qualifications:

The qualifications listed below are preferred and may be considered in the selection process, but they are not required to be rated qualified for this job:

  1. An Associate’s Degree in Police Science, Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice, or a related field.

  2. Possession of current certification as a Law Enforcement Officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, OR possession of certification as a Law Enforcement Officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services that is expired for less than twenty-four months.
