Job Description / Responsibilities

A career with the South Boston Police Department offers individuals a chance to experience unlimited professional and personal growth.  The hiring process includes written exam and physical agility test and an extensive police background investigation, including a psychological exam.  Qualified applicants will be advised of testing dates.

Salary & Benefits
Starting salary for Police Officer I is $28,433.37.  Applicants with three years experience may be hired at Police Officer II with starting pay of $31,032.00.  Salary based upon qualifications and experience.

  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age;
  • United States citizen;
  • Graduated from accredited high school or successful completion of a GED;
  • Ability to be courteous yet firm with public;
  • Must possess ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions;
  • Excellent moral character, to include no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude;
  • Be of excellent health and physical condition.
