Job Description / Responsibilities

The Town of Dumfries has three (3) total Sergeant positions

Pay is $55,000 and a standard benefits package that includes VRS LEO retirement and employee fully funded health insurance.

Certified Officers will be offered a hiring bonus.


Minimum Requirements:

  1. Possess an Associate's Degree (or higher level of education) in law enforcement subject matter (Criminology, etc).
  2. Experience as a law enforcement supervisor (preferred).
  3. Current Virginia DCJS certification (preferred).
  4. Must have a valid VA Driver's License at the time of employment start date.
  5. Must be a Citizen of the United States.
  6. Must be 21 years of age.
  7. Must not have been convicted of any felony.

Applicants must successfully complete:

  1. Physical Agility Test (waived for current VA DCJS Certification);
  2. Polygraph Examination;
  3. Psychological Examination;
  4. Physical Examination (to include a Drug Screen);
  5. Credit Check;
  6. Extensive background investigation (i.e. criminal background check, driver transcript review, etc.).
