Dr. JoAnne Brewster Receives 2013 VACP President’s Award

Dr. JoAnne Brewster of Harrisonburg was honored on August 27 with the 2013 VACP President’s Award for her many years of service to Virginia law enforcement. Staunton Police Chief Jim Williams, 2012-2013 VACP President, presented the award to Dr. Brewster at the annual conference of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police in Williamsburg.
JoAnne Brewster, Ph.D., ABPP, is a professor in the Department of Graduate Psychology at James Madison University. She teaches Abnormal Psychology, Forensic Psychology, and Police Psychology. Dr. Brewster consults with the Staunton Police Department and the Waynesboro Police Department, and has previously worked with the Richmond Police Department and the Harrisonburg Police Department. Her main research interests are in the police personality and the selection of police officers.
Dr. Brewster is board certified by the American Board of Police & Public Safety Psychology. She is a past president and current secretary and executive board member of the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology. She is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the American Psychological Association, and the Virginia Psychological Association. She serves on the executive board of the American Board of Police & Public Safety Psychology, and is a past president and current executive board member of the American Academy of Police & Public Safety.
The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police is a statewide organization of federal, state and local police chiefs and law enforcement executives dedicated to improving the professionalism of police agencies in Virginia. The Association was founded in 1926 and has more than 600 members. The Association provides annual training programs for law enforcement executives, directs a statewide traffic safety program for law enforcement, produces Freedom of Information Act guidelines for law enforcement and lobbies for law enforcement interests at the state and federal level. The Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation is a charitable educational foundation created by the VACP to provide training and education programs for law enforcement.
