Community Involvement Means Less Crime in Staunton

August 4, 2010 | Virginia News

Police officers say It's what some community members are doing year round that prevents crime in Staunton.

Officer Lisa Klein with the Staunton Police Department says it's neighbors like Walsh who make her job easier. Klein says, "Just coming in and doing suppression isn't enough. You have to have people in the community who will talk to police and look out for each other." The days where everyone on the block knew each other are gone, and Klein says community involvement has to exist to keep crime down. "That's when it works best," adds Klein. "When everyone knows everyone and they look out for each other. That means not letting kids do things they shouldn't." External Link to Article
