General Assembly updates: Guns in bars bill advances to Gov. McDonnell, more
March 2, 2010 | Virginia News
RICHMOND - Bills that would ease restrictions on guns in bars and in cars are headed to the desk of Gov. Bob McDonnell, even as a Senate subcommittee seeks to bottle up similar measures.
The House of Delegates today passed a bill that would allow customers with permits to have concealed handguns in restaurants and other establishments that serve alcohol. But gun-carrying patrons could face a misdemeanor charge if they consume alcohol.
The legislation (Senate Bill 334) already has passed the Senate. The bill now goes to McDonnell, who has said he will sign the measure. Former Gov. Tim Kaine vetoed similar bills in each of the past two years. The measure passed by a vote of 72-27.
