Hanover sheriff to retire in September
July 21, 2010 | Virginia News
After 45 years in law enforcement, V. Stuart Cook has decided it's time to retire as sheriff of Hanover County.
On Oct. 1, Lt. Col. David R. Hines will step into the position that Cook has held for 20 years. Cook's last working day will be Sept. 15; his term was to expire Dec. 31, 2011. Hines will serve until the circuit court appoints a successor to fill out the term or calls for a special election.
"I have had a great career," Cook said. "I have been blessed in my 45 years."
Pursuing a career in law enforcement had been a dream since "I was a little boy," said Cook, 67. "I had always looked up to police officers."
