Honoring Our Heroes

September 11, 2013 | VACP

News Image September 11 is a date of remembrance, forever seared Into the memory and conscience of every public safety professional, and we honor the many police officers and firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty that day.

In Virginia,  we are working hard to honor our own with the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial  to be built on the grounds of the state Capitol in Richmond.  While many of you have local and agency memorials to honor men and women killed in the line of duty, many more don't have such memorials.  The construction of a state memorial in Richmond unifies all Virginia public safety officers in one memorial that will be seen daily by the thousands of school children and tourists who visit the Capitol, and by the policy makers who make laws and funding decisions that impact public safety.

On September 11, the Virginia Shield Foundation is hosting a fundraising dinner in Middlesex County to help build the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial.  Our thanks to those of you who are attending and supporting this important fundraising event.  Even if you can't attend, you can help! On this important day when we remember the sacrifices made in the 9/11 attacks, please give to support our Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial.

And, thank you for your service.  The quality of life we enjoy in our great Commonwealth is because of the work you do every day.
