The Belmont Country Club in Loudoun County Virginia was the location for the second annual “State of Law Enforcement in Loudoun County.” The event is one of the many informative meetings coordinated by the Loudoun County Crime Commission. The chief law enforcement officers from the four agencies within the county were the keynote speakers.

Each agency head discussed programs that they use to keep the streets of their respective localities safe and the information was as diverse as the agencies.  A few of the highlights:

  • Chief Joe Price in Leesburg talked about the predcitive method of policing that is now being tested by his department.
  • Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman discussed the department’s key role in implementing Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) to area and specifically to include the dispatchers.  The training is available to all surrounding agencies.
  • Chief AJ Panebianco of Middleburg discussed the successes of their community policing efforts and how the department has transitioned during the past twenty months or so.  The department is now providing services 24/7/365 and has a full time investigator to handle cases that, in the past, would have been referred to the sheriff’s office.
  • Chief Darryl Smith of Purcellville told of the many community policing efforts they do and reminded everyone to attend the annual public safety day in Purcellville.

In addition to the information the chiefs offered each fielded questions about issues and or potential issues that face the community.  In the end, it was evident to all in attendance that the chiefs bring a new meaning to the word cooperation.  Each locality works with the other to make sure there is not a loss of information or opportunity to work together.  The event was rounded out with a great meal and time for each chief to meet with individuals who were in attendance.
