Online Forum Promotes Security at Virginia Colleges and Universities

August 15, 2007 | Virginia News

RICHMOND, VA – Virginia colleges and universities now have an online forum to discuss campus preparedness issues. The Virginia Higher Education Preparedness Consortium (VHEPC) launched a new Web site to allow campus officials to share best practices and publish campus security materials.

“The consortium has worked to provide colleges and universities throughout the Commonwealth an avenue to discuss security topics,” said Assistant to the Governor for Commonwealth Preparedness Bob Crouch. “This Web site will improve campus security in Virginia by giving these institutions a central information source.” The Web site,, includes a secure section where members of the Virginia college community can post information, discuss research and practices and read what is being done at other colleges and universities. Only users associated with a college or university will be given permission to access this section. The VHEPC was formed in late 2006 as a joint effort between the Office of Commonwealth Preparedness and the Office of the Secretary of Education. Crouch announced the Web site’s launch at the Governor’s Conference on Campus Security, where more than 600 attendees from more than 60 Virginia colleges and universities met to share ideas on how to further campus security in Virginia.
