Police agencies shun immingration enforcement training program

On paper, it sounds like a good opportunity — the federal government, through U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, will train and authorize state and local officers to enforce immigration laws.

But in practice, the initiative — one of many attempts by the government to address the hotly debated issue of illegal immigration — has not been well-received. Fewer than two dozen law-enforcement agencies across the country have opted to partner with ICE to train officers to enforce immigration laws.
