Smithfield police chief takes helm of IACP

News Image Corporate sponsors, not taxpayers, will foot costs for most local participants

SMITHFIELD - Smithfield Police Chief Mark Marshall will be surrounded by co-workers and town officials next week when he is sworn in as president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Expenses for most of those attending – including travel, hotel, food and registration – will be covered by a fund established by the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, said Marshall. Many corporate sponsors, including Smithfield Foods, made donations to sponsor officers' attendance.
