VACP Supports Reappointment of State Police Superintendent Flaherty

The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) today announced its support of Governor McDonnell’s reappointment of Colonel Steve Flaherty as Superintendent of the Virginia State Police.
“The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police fully supports the reappointment of Col. Steve Flaherty as Superintendent of the State Police,” said Chief Doug Scott, President of the Association. “Col. Flaherty is dedicated to a strong professional partnership between the State Police and local law enforcement agencies. We trust and depend on his leadership, and believe he continues to be the right person for the job.”
The VACP expressed its support for Colonel Flaherty’s reappointment to the Governor’s transition team. The VACP is joined by a number of regional chiefs’ associations that sent the Governor letters of support for Colonel Flaherty, including the Blue Ridge Association of Chiefs of Police, the Central Shenandoah Association of Chiefs of Police, the Central Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, the Hampton Roads Regional Chiefs of Police Association, the Northern Virginia Police Chiefs and Sheriffs Committee and the Virginia Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police is a statewide organization of federal, state and local police chiefs and law enforcement executives dedicated to improving the professionalism of police agencies in Virginia. The Association was founded in 1926 and has more than 600 members.###
