Virginia’s Secretary of Public Safety shares new active shooter video

January 22, 2013 | VACP

The Secretary of Public Safety's Office has shared a new video on their website entitled "Run, Hide, Fight." The video is an excellent demonstration of how to survive an active shooter situation.

An “active shooter” is an individual who is actively engaged in shooting or attempting to shoot or kill people in a confined and populated area. Most active shooters use firearms of choice and have no particular planned approach to their selection of victims. These situations are all different, but they can be very unpredictable and can quickly escalate. Because active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes, many times before law enforcement arrives on the scene, individuals must be prepared both mentally and physically to react to such an occurrence.

This video was funded by the Department of Homeland Security Grant Funded Project and produced by the City of Houston's Mayor's Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security. The Video presents “active shooter” information in a simple and concise manner to better prepare individuals who might encounter such a situation.

Always be prepared for the worst - your survival depends on having a plan in place.
