New Chiefs / Deputy Chiefs Training
MARCH 21-23, 2017
This is a three-day training program that has been designed for individuals who have been recently appointed or elected to the position of chief executive of their agency, assistant or deputy chief executive, or for those individuals who act in those roles in their absence. This program is designed to assist newly promoted/appointed executive level personnel in their transition to their new role.
The curriculum is focused on issues central to running a successful law enforcement agency. Classes may include: “Things to do First” for New Police Chiefs, Political Environments, Financial Management, Records Management, Personnel Actions, Ethics, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), People’s Rights and Police Obligations (Understanding and protecting 1st Amendment rights with the emphasis on Freedom to Assemble), and Legislative Updates. Classes offered change from time to time to ensure that topics covered are recent and relevant.
In addition to classroom discussions, this program provides participants with the opportunity to network with executive staff members from other law enforcement agencies. This is a great opportunity to meet and seek assistance from other law enforcement executives. The program is open to applicants from law enforcement agencies, both in-state and out-of-state.
