Job Description / Responsibilities

The Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) is seeking a Public Safety Communications Project Manager to provide support of all of VITA’s statutory responsibilities and assist in the implementation of enhanced 9-1-1 throughout the Commonwealth, with particular emphasis on: (1) supporting the activities of the Wireless E-91 1 Services Board; (2) provide project management, development and coordination to assist in the statewide deployment and maintenance of enhanced wireless emergency telecommunications services and technologies; (3) developing plans, policies, standards, and guidelines as required for public safety communications; and (4) completing special projects and studies assigned by the IT Investment Board, Commonwealth CIO, or General Assembly. The selected applicant will oversee management of multiple and highly complex E-911 projects, including initiation, planning, execution, and closure. The selected applicant will assist in the development of the comprehensive work program for the Integrated Services Program Division and provide support for the resulting plan; and provide ongoing, effective support to the Wireless E-911 Services Board as they contribute to work program activities. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Extensive knowledge of public safety communications and enhanced 9-1-1 systems. Knowledge of current 9-1-1 industry trends in technology architecture, microcomputers, networking, and the Internet/Worldwide Web. Demonstrated ability to: analyze technology-related issues and develop solutions and recommendations for appropriate action; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to draft technology-related plans, policies, standards and guidelines; to work effectively with agency management, state and local managers and staff, policy boards, and other, non-government groups.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with course work in communications, public administration, business administration, or a related field.

Considerable experience in management of public safety communications. An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.
