Smart Safe & Sober (Traffic Safety)
Formed in 1997, Virginia's Smart, Safe & Sober Partnership is the cooperative efforts of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, the Virginia Department of State Police, the Virginia Sheriffs' Association, and DRIVE SMART® Virginia to promote traffic safety across the state. Through a variety of public education campaigns and enforcement initiatives, the Smart, Safe & Sober Partnership strives to reduce fatalities and injuries on our roadways.
The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police has committed to making traffic safety a major priority by devoting 100% of four full-time staff positions and one part-time staff position to these efforts — three of these being Law Enforcement Liaisons stationed across the state to personally assist law enforcement agencies with their traffic safety initiatives. Additionally, the Smart Safe & Sober website was designed and is maintained by a member of the VACP staff.
