Member Opportunities
Committees & Appointments
All VACP members have the opportunity to serve on Association committees, or to volunteer to represent the VACP on administrative and legislative committees and advisory boards. We want to know if you are interested in serving in one of these capacities. Your responses to this survey will help the VACP in selecting qualified and interested individuals when we are asked to provide a law enforcement executive to fill an appointment.
VACP Executive Board
The Executive Board of the VACP meets approximately 6 times per year to direct the business of the association and to discuss issues of importance to the law enforcement profession. The Board is made up of five (5) committeemen, three (3) vice presidents, the President of the Association, and the Immediate Past President. Members of the Board succeed annually through the chairs, serving first as Committeemen, then as 3rd, 2nd, and 1st Vice Presidents, and ultimately as President of the Association. Following a one-year term as President, that Board Member serves one additional year as Immediate Past President.
Each year at the VACP Annual Conference in August, one new member is elected to the board to replace the outgoing Past President. (However, on some occasions, more than one board position needs to be filled due to retirement or other vacancy.) Active members in good standing who are the chief executive officer of their agency are eligible to serve on the VACP Executive Board.
Eligible members who are interested in the open position(s) are interviewed at the August conference by the VACP Nominating Committee, who then nominate a candidate(s) to the voting membership for election to the Board. Newly elected board members fill the lowest open slot on the Board (i.e. When one new member is elected to the Board, he joins as the 10th member. In years where there is an additional vacancy, the two new elected members join as the 9th & 10th members of the board as ordered by the Nominating Committee.).
If you are interested in serving on the Executive Board or have questions about serving, contact either VACP Executive Director Dana Schrad at (804) 285-8227 or , OR Chief Charlie T. Deane, Nominating Committee Chairman (contact information available in the Online Member Directory.)
