Virginia Victim Assistance Academy

SWAT Supervision and Management (4 days)

Staunton, VA | August 4 – 7, 2008 | Training Opportunities

Designed for SWAT unit commanders, supervisors and staff and other command personnel, this program focuses on responding to special threat incidents, such as violent barricade/hostage situations, and providing recommended responses and tactical solutions that result in a professional resolution. It also emphasizes criteria for selecting personnel; forestalling civil liability issues; maintaining personnel; selecting appropriate weapons for various agency environments; and matching standards, testing and training concepts for SWAT units. After taking this training, participants will be able to: identify criteria for selecting SWAT personnel identify criteria for selecting communications equipment, weapons and SWAT gear implement management controls and safeguards in the daily SWAT operations design high-risk warrant service operations identify tactical operations center concepts and functions and understand how they differ from emergency operations center concepts and functions.

*Only sworn officers or full-time employees of law enforcement agencies may attend.

Training co-hosted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the Staunton Police Department.

College & University Police and Investigators Conference

This conference focuses on the unique law enforcement and security needs of Colleges and Universities. Topics and breakout sessions covered are geared towards situations and crimes committed on colleges and universities.

Advanced DUI Enforcement & Prosecution

Blacksburg, VA | August 25 – 27, 2008 | Training Opportunities

This training is offered to law enforcement FREE OF CHARGE by the Commonwealth Attorney's Services Council (CASC)!

REGISTER EARLY! Attendance is limited to 15 teams, each of which consists of a prosecutor and a law enforcement officer from a given jurisdiction. Law enforcement in-service credit hours and MCLE credits, pending approval.

Harley Davidson Police Motorcycles 100th Anniversary Celebration

Harley-Davidson Motor Company is planning a number of exciting activities during the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary to celebrate 100 years of Harley-Davidson Police Motorcycles.

These events will include the first ever Harley-Davidson sponsored Riding Skills Competitions. Event activities will begin Wednesday, August 27th and conclude Saturday, August 30th. Proceeds from the events will benefit C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors), a national organization that provides resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

National Criminal Justice Command College

It is designed to provide an integrated approach to criminal justice and leadership education.
