Virginia Victim Assistance Academy
Richmond, VA | July 27 – August 1, 2008 | Training Opportunities
DCJS is pleased to announce the launching of the very first Virginia Victim Assistance Academy. The Academy will provide a 45-hour comprehensive,academic, interdisciplinary and interactive training program. The curriculum will provide a foundation of victims services and principles to enable participants to more effectively help crime victims regain control of their lives.
The Curriculum will include presentations on: Crime Victim Assistance, Victimology, Cultural Competency, Assisting Clients with Dealing with Grief and Trauma, Victims' Rights, Interviewing Victims, Dealing with Special Populations, and Understanding the Criminal Justice System.
Appropriate Candidates: The Academy invites applications from victim services providers, allied professionals such as law enforcement officers, prosecutors, probation and parole officers, volunteers, victim advocates,sexual assault advocates, domestic violence advocates, and other victim service providers. The curriculum is designed for those with three or fewer years of experience. Successful applicants will be required to attend all sessions of the Academy and may be required to complete some work prior to the academy. Space is limited to thirty participants. Apply and/or encourage others to apply and be a part of a select group attending Virginia's first Victim Assistance Academy. Location: The five-day academy will be held in Richmond, Virginia. The Academy will utilize modern classroom facilities in a comfortable university setting. Lodging will be provided in on-campus private rooms.
Cost: Registration will be $500. On-campus lodging and all meals are included. Some scholarships are available.
Credit: DCJS in-service credit is being requested and should be available for law enforcement officers. CLE credit may be available. Successful completion of the Academy will make participants eligible for Provisional Advocate Credentialing through the National Advocate Credentialing Program.

National Criminal Justice Command College

In partnership with the University of Virginia, the Virginia State Police hosts the National Criminal Justice Command College, which provides an opportunity for criminal justice, corrections, and fire program supervisors to expand their leadership qualities, strengthen their skills, and broaden their overall potential to successfully lead their organization. It is designed to provide an integrated approach to criminal justice and leadership education.
This is an opportunity for executives from around the country to collaboratively work to further the capabilities of all organizations. The 10-week course is held at the Virginia State Police academy in Richmond, Virginia. Attendees will receive fifteen credit hours, undergraduate or graduate, from the University of Virginia.

Advanced DUI Enforcement & Prosecution
Blacksburg, VA | August 25 – 27, 2008 | Training Opportunities
This training is offered to law enforcement FREE OF CHARGE by the Commonwealth Attorney's Services Council (CASC)!
REGISTER EARLY! Attendance is limited to 15 teams, each of which consists of a prosecutor and a law enforcement officer from a given jurisdiction. Law enforcement in-service credit hours and MCLE credits, pending approval.
The Advanced DUI Enforcement and Prosecution program will be held from August 25-27, 2008 in Blacksburg, VA.
Law enforcement will need to recruit a prosecutor partner to attend with them, but there is no cost to the attendees other than the cost of transportation to and from the program. The CASC provides the training; individual hotel rooms for each attendee on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights, if needed; and the following meals:
- Monday breakfast and lunch,
- Tuesday breakfast and lunch, and
- Wednesday breakfast.

College & University Police and Investigators Conference

The Third Annual College and University Police and Investigators Conference will be in Fairfax, Virginia at George Mason University. This conference focuses on the unique law enforcement and security needs of Colleges and Universities. A call for presentations is available for download if you or if anyone that you know may be interested in presenting or teaching a class. Email or fax your presentation form as indicated on the last page of the call for presentations.
In addition to attending, please consider becoming a presenter in a workshop/breakout session. We rely on participation from everyone attending. This is a great opportunity to share and learn current trends on campuses and techniques that other colleges/universities are using. We encourage everyone to submit a presentation.

IACP Law Enforcement Information Management Section 32nd Annual Conference
