Domestic disturbances pose a danger for police officers

Fredericksburg Police Chief David Nye on Saturday stated his firm belief that Officer Todd Bahr and the other officers who responded to a woman's call for help after her ex-boyfriend threatened her saved her life on Friday night.

A Fredericksburg police officer and a suspect were killed late Friday night in a shot-filled incident fueled by the suspect’s apparent obsession with a former girlfriend.Officer Todd Bahr, 40, a member of the city force for just under two years, was killed by a single gunshot wound to the head. Bahr's death is the first time since 1964 that the Fredericksburg Police Department has lost an officer in the line of duty.
The VACP requests that Virginia law enforcement officers shroud their badges through the day of memorial services for Officer Bahr – Thursday, June 12.

Move means one of six majors likely to serve as Richmond interim chiefThe Richmond Police Department's second in command will leave the department when Chief Rodney Monroe heads to Charlotte, N.C. to his new job as chief of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Assistant Chief Ray Tarasovic, brought in by Monroe after he was hired in Richmond in February, 2005, confirmed he will leave the Richmond department with Monroe, who is scheduled to start in Charlotte on June 16.
Task forces to fight online predators

Law enforcement from around the region gathered in Prince William County on Tuesday afternoon for the announcement of the $1.5 million in new funding for two task forces that investigate and catch online child sex predators.The Northern and Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children task forces will each receive $750,000 through "Alicia's Law"—an initiative authored by Del. Brian J. Moran, D-Alexandria, that was passed in this year's General Assembly.

Richmond Police Chief Rodney Monroe has been offered the job of police chief in Charlotte, N.C.In an exclusive interview with The Richmond Times-Dispatch, Monroe said he's going to take the job. Monroe, 51, who was hired by Mayor L. Douglas Wilder in February 2005, will become Charlotte's first black police chief.

City Manager Kenneth L. Chandler today introduced Portsmouth’s new interim police chief, William F. Corvello.Corvello, a retired state trooper, served in 2002 as the city’s interim police chief.
He is a former Virginia State Police superintendent. He was appointed by Gov. L. Douglas Wilder in 1990 and he retired in 1992 from the state police.
