82nd Annual Conference of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Set for Williamsburg

The 82nd Annual Conference of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) is set for August 26-29, 2007, at the Williamsburg Lodge. VACP President Chief J. Michael Yost and the Williamsburg Police Department are the hosts for the statewide conference. “The conference is a unique opportunity to bring together federal, state, local, private and campus law enforcement executives from Virginia for professional training and peer networking,” according to Chief Yost. The conference is held in conjunction with the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation (VPCF), the charitable educational foundation of the VACP.

2006 National Law Enforcement Challenge Winners Announced!

The judging is over and the results are in! Virginia agencies captured 15 awards this year and 1 special award, which is the second-highest number of awards per state (Georgia agencies won 17 awards and 2 special awards). Our congratulations go out to all the agencies that won state and national awards!

VACP 2006 Outstanding Legislator Award Presented to Senator Ken Stolle

State Senator Kenneth W. Stolle was honored on August 8 with the 2006 Outstanding Legislator Award, presented by the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police. The award was presented during the VACP Annual Conference Awards Banquet at the Hotel Roanoke Conference Center.

Secretary of Public Safety John Marshall Presented VACP President’s Award

The Honorable John W. Marshall, Virginia Secretary of Public Safety, was honored August 8 with the President’s Award at the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Awards Banquet in Roanoke. VACP President, Lynchburg Police Chief Charles Bennett, presented the award to Secretary Marshall for his many years of service to Virginia and national law enforcement.

Nineteen Officers Receive 2006 VACP/VPCF Awards for Valor

The Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police on August 8, 2006 presented nineteen Virginia police officers from eight agencies with the Association’s highest honor, the Award for Valor.

The Award for Valor recognizes a law enforcement officer who, in the line of duty, performs an act of extraordinary heroism while engaged with an adversary at imminent personal risk. The awards are presented annually at the Valor Awards Banquet at the annual conference of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, held this year at the Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke, Virginia. The awards program is a joint effort of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police and the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation.

VACP/VPCF Recognizes Four Officers with 2006 Awards for Lifesaving

Four Virginia police officers have been honored with 2006 Lifesaving Awards by the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) and the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation (VPCF). The Lifesaving Award recognizes an officer’s actions that put the officer in harm’s way in an attempt to save the live of another individual.

The 2006 VACP/VPCF Lifesaving Award recipients are Sergeant Kevin A. Tucker, Christiansburg Police Department; Officer Bharat J. Ramdeholl, Newport News Police Department; and Trooper Jason Ray Hypes and Master Trooper Darrell C. Bowling, Virginia State Police.
