Florida Criminals Target Police for Weapons

Criminals are going after cops — for their guns. In the past year, gang members, thieves and drug dealers in Palm Beach County have broken into at least six police cars and stolen handguns and shotguns, officials say."This shows how brazen they are," Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said.
Realizing they, too, can be victims, the Sheriff's Office and other agencies are fighting back by adding burglar alarms to marked and unmarked cruisers, installing extra gun locks in cars and enforcing rules that bar off-duty storage of handguns, shotguns and assault rifles in car.
IACP Law Enforcement Information Management Conferences

The IACP Law Enforcement Information Management (LEIM) Section has two upcoming conferences focused on enhancing law enforcement efficiency and effectiveness with technology.The first is the Second International Conference to be held in late November in Nassau, Bahamas – the deadline for registration is this Friday, November 2nd. The second is the 32nd Annual Conference of the LEIM Section to be held in May in Nashville, TN.

Response to immigration explored

Va. coalition considers what authority exists or should be requestedA new coalition of local governments aiming to address illegal immigration signaled yesterday it might explore whether officials are barred from asking the legal status of schoolchildren. The group also may consider pushing for more authority from the state to address crowding in homes.
Representatives from a dozen localities around Virginia gathered in Culpeper yesterday for the coalition's initial meeting. More than 20 localities have joined the coalition or expressed interest in working together to look at the issues, learn from one another and possibly seek changes through the General Assembly.
Stafford Deputy Killed In Crash

The VACP is saddened to report the death of 24-year-old Stafford County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Edward Mooney, who was killed in a crash on Interstate 95 late Friday.Deputy Mooney was following an ambulance en route to the scene of a car crash, when he apparently lost control near the courthouse about 10:25 p.m. and ran off the road, police said. Rescue workers tried to revive the deputy, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, according to police.
The VACP requests that Virginia law enforcement officers shroud their badges from now until the conclusion of memorial services in honor of Deputy Mooney.

Starting with about 20 models for 2009, the service will be able to slowly halt a car that is reported stolen, and the radio may even speak up and tell the thief to pull over because police are watching.
