Better pay, broader recruiting help the force turn the tideRecruiting and retaining police officers was a problem in Richmond when Chief Rodney Monroe took over in early 2005.
A number of officers recruited in Richmond would go through training at the Richmond Police Academy, only to leave within five years to join other departments offering better pay, better hours and nicer equipment and working conditions. The department was regularly understaffed.
Police consider ‘meth gun’ to find drugs

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Police are hopeful a handheld device an Arizona company says can detect methamphetamine with the click of a button will provide them with a new investigative tool, but some lawyers already are raising concerns.The meth scanner is being evaluated by law enforcement agencies in Missouri and Arizona. Tucson-based CDEX, the manufacturer, also plans tests on different types of meth in the next four weeks.
Police Items Stolen from Waynesboro PD

A Waynesboro Police Department vehicle was broken into sometime between November 1 and November 7.A Virginia State Police-issued badge and a Waynesboro Police Department-issued gun were taken from the vehicle parked in front of an officer's residence in Staunton.
