RICHMOND, Va. — The chairman of the independent panel that investigated the Virginia Tech shootings said Monday the nation must stop the spread of guns.
W. Gerald Massengill spoke at a meeting of the Virginia Center for Public Safety, a gun control advocacy group, in which he gave an overview of the panel's report on the April 16 shootings that left dead 33 people on the Blacksburg campus, including the mentally ill gunman.
The former Virginia State Police superintendent focused on gun control laws and the gun purchase and campus policy recommendations set forth by the eight-member review panel.
