Henrico Co. high school student brings loaded gun to school

A 15-year-old student at Tucker High School was arrested yesterday after police found a loaded semi-automatic pistol in his pocket, Henrico County police said today.

On Thursday, February 7 at 3:41 PM, Tucker's School Resource Officer was informed by a faculty member that a student reported that a student at the school may have a gun in his possession.

Wanting to contain the student in the class room and only minutes away from the dismissal bell, the officer along with school administrators quickly moved to the student's room and encountered the student inside. A violent struggle immediately followed between the student and the officer and the administrators as they tried to contain him. The officer succeeded in tackling the student as he ran out of the room and cuffed him.

During the search, the officer located a loaded 380. semi-auto pistol in the student's left front pocket.

The student was charged with 18-2-301.1 Possession of a Weapon While on School Property and placed in the county's juvenile detention facility. Several more charges will follow.

During the incident the officer sustained an injury to his left knee. His injuries were examined at Henrico Doctors- Parham and he was released for duty.
