Lynchburg Police Chief Charles Bennett announced his retirement this morning during a press conference at City Hall. Bennett’s retirement will be effective May 1.

His future plans are undecided, although he said he was in talks with the federal government about possibly taking on a “challenging overseas assignment.” He declined to elaborate, saying he would make a formal announcement sometime after New Year's Day.
