Radford City Names New Police Chief

December 8, 2007 | Virginia News

The City of Radford is pleased to announce that Don Goodman will be its new Chief of Police effective January 1st, 2008.

Goodman, who has been a Radford resident since graduating from Radford University with a degree in Criminal Justice in 1984, will join the City’s force after 23 years with the Blacksburg Police Department.

Choosing Goodman for RPD’s top spot began nearly two months ago when more than 40 people applied for the position. After sorting through applications, the top six candidates were identified and invited to half-day interviews before three panels.

One panel was a group of Radford community leaders; another was made up of City department heads – including current Chief of Police Gary Harmon and Sheriff Mark Armentrout; while the third panel was comprised of members of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police.
