Retired LaCrosse Chief Bill Williams Passes Away

Served 22 Years as Chief of Police (1963-1985)
The VACP is saddened to report that Retired LaCrosse Police Chief Horace "Bill" Williams, Jr. (July 19, 1923 - December 29, 2007) died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the Community Memorial Healthcenter. He served as Chief of Police for the towns of La Crosse, Victoria and Franklinton, N.C and the City of Henderson, N.C. Chief Williams was a WW II Army veteran, and the widower of Vivian M. Williams.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted Wednesday January 2nd at 11:00 A.M. in La Crosse Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. The LaCrosse Police Department is mounting an Honor Watch at the visitation on Tuesday evening, and will be providing Pall Bearers at the graveside service.
Mr. Williams is survived by his daughters; Ann Jones and her husband Herbert Leigh, “Dee” Wilson and her husband Mac, all of South Hill, and Nancy Thompson of Brodnax, a brother, Cecil Williams of St. Louis, MO., six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
