Richmond teens will work for department while earning degree
For the next three years, the cadets, ages 17 and 18, will work for the Richmond Police Department in a civilian capacity while attending school at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and Virginia Commonwealth University, earning degrees in criminal justice.
After their third year and once they reach the age of 21, the cadets will be prepared to enter an abbreviated version of the police academy that could have them on the streets as sworn officers in a matter of weeks. The cadets will be expected to serve at least two years as Richmond police officers.
