Waynesboro police gun, badge found; two teens from Staunton arrested

November 10, 2007 | Virginia News

Authorities report recovering a Waynesboro police officer’s stolen gun and badge Thursday.

In the process, they arrested two Staunton teens and charged them with breaking into the officer’s unmarked car, where the two items were when taken.

Charged with grand larceny are Daniel Jordan Goepel, 18, and a 16-year-old male whose name has been withheld because he is a minor.

The Waynesboro officer had the car parked in front of his Staunton home between Nov. 1, when he last used the items, and Wednesday, when he discovered the theft. The badge was near the front seat and the pistol was in the trunk.

Police refused to release any details about what led to the teens’ arrests or the discovery of the gun and badge.
