CALEA, PowerDMS Announce Upcoming Launch of Free Standards and Policy Platform

Law enforcement agencies will be able to access the CALEA Core Standards Resource Library and PowerDMS's policy management solution, which includes 30+ highly relevant law enforcement industry standards (Use of Force, Neck Restraints, and Duty to Intervene) from CALEA.

Orlando, Fla. (Aug. 12, 2020) – The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA®) and PowerDMS, the leader in cloud-based secure crucial information management technology for law enforcement, announced the launch of a free platform to law enforcement nationwide. Coming in September, this platform will provide resources to support agencies in the delivery of professional public safety services within their community. It will give agencies the opportunity to benchmark their policies and view examples of accredited agencies' policies using the international gold standard in public safety accreditation.

Law enforcement agencies will be able to create a secure online account to access the CALEA Core Standards Resource Library and PowerDMS's policy management solution. This will include 30+ highly relevant law enforcement industry standards (Use of Force, Neck Restraints, and Duty to Intervene) from CALEA, specifically focused on continuous organizational improvement and accountability. This starter version of CALEA's Law Enforcement Standards Manual and of PowerDMS will provide agencies with the basic tools necessary to build, store, organize and manage their crucial, living policy documents and pair them with the latest leading accreditation standards. It will also allow organizations to create living connections to the most recent accrediting standards which they can use to address gaps in their departments' critical policies.

PRE-LAUNCH SIGNUP PAGE

“We are proud to partner with PowerDMS to put the right tools in front of agencies to simplify their ability to adhere to crucial industry standards, seek accreditation, and allow for more rapid policy development,” said Craig Hartley, executive director of CALEA. “CALEA Accreditation is a proven solution to support law enforcement and I am confident this solution will provide a return on investment for those who choose to implement accreditation into the foundation of their organization.”

Once connected to the platform, agencies will get the continual benefit of receiving updates to CALEA Standards and sample policies preloaded in the account.  The technology will be available via the secure online platform and mobile application.

“Our goal with this project is to help law enforcement, no matter how big or small an agency, or their budget, secure the best resources and technology needed to efficiently answer the public's calls for additional transparency and accountability,” said David DiGiacomo, CEO of PowerDMS.  “The system will essentially become the living truth for users when it comes to the latest standards in which agencies can take into consideration when developing their own policies, training, and procedures.”

The platform will be limited to current law enforcement and public safety personnel. Agencies should consider these standards as indicators of their capacity to successfully participate in CALEA® Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.   However, the selections do not provide for the full benefits of the more in-depth process.

To sign up for this powerful resource, follow this link to the pre-launch sign-up page and answer a few questions about your agency, which will need to be verified prior to account activation.

About CALEA
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., (CALEA®) was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement's major executive associations: International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP); National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE); National Sheriffs' Association (NSA); and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF). The purpose of CALEA's Accreditation Programs is to improve the delivery of public safety services, primarily by: maintaining a body of standards, developed by public safety practitioners, covering a wide range of up-to-date public safety initiatives; establishing and administering an accreditation process; and recognizing professional excellence. Specifically, CALEA's goals are to: Strengthen crime prevention and control capabilities; Formalize essential management procedures; Establish fair and nondiscriminatory personnel practices; Improve service delivery; Solidify interagency cooperation and coordination, and Increase community and staff confidence in the agency. The CALEA Accreditation Process is a proven modern management model; once implemented, it presents the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), on a continuing basis, with a blueprint that promotes the efficient use of resources and improves service delivery— regardless of the size, geographic location, or functional responsibilities of the agency. This accreditation program provides public safety agencies an opportunity to voluntarily demonstrate that they meet an established set of professional standards based on industry best practices and approved by an all-volunteer board of commissioners.
