HEAT AWARDS ARE NOW OPEN

Nominations for the 2023 HEAT Awards are now open. You are invited to nominate yourself and team members for Individual Awards and your organization for an Agency Award

For decades, the Virginia State Police HEAT Program has been recognizing law enforcement partners as they diligently work to eliminate auto theft across the Commonwealth. To be considered for an award, nominees must demonstrate excellence in two of the four key areas:
  • Intelligence
  • Prevention
  • Enforcement
  • Recovery
The HEAT awards may also recognize several additional categories which are:
  • Major Case Award
  • Private Sector Award
  • Public Outreach Award

LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD

The HEAT awards have been structured so larger agencies with more resources compete against agencies of comparable size. Each award category is based on the size of the population served by the agency. The population served categories are as follows:
  • Fewer than 5,000
  • 5,001 to 20,0000
  • 20,001 to 100,000
  • 100,000+
  • Across the Commonwealth
One agency and individual WINNER may be recognized from each category and additional agencies and individuals may be honored as FINALISTS or CERTIFICATE OF METER recipients.

WHO CAN ENTER

The annual HEAT awards are open to all federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and their employees who are engaged in the mission of helping to eliminate auto theft. Select private industry partners who actively combat vehicle theft are also considered.

AWARDS PRESENTATION

The HEAT awards are presented each year at the Virginia Sheriff's Association and Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation annual conferences. Award recipients receive trophies and/or certificates as well as gifts.
