Ronnie Edmonds Selected as Chief of Police for South Boston

Town Manager Thomas Raab has selected Ronnie Edmonds as the new Chief of Police for the Town of South Boston Police Department. Chief Edmonds has been serving in that position on an interim basis since late last December.
Town Manager Thomas Raab has selected Ronnie Edmonds as the new Chief of Police for the Town of South Boston Police Department. Chief Edmonds has been serving in that position on an interim basis since late last December.

Chief Edmonds has been a dedicated agency member, serving the community since April 1990. During his tenure, he held various roles, including patrol officer, sergeant in the patrol unit, leader of the department's tactical unit, and first sergeant overseeing the agency's daily operations. He retired from law enforcement in 2020, last holding the position of Lieutenant. In 2021, Chief Edmonds returned to serve part-time as a patrol officer for the South Boston Police Department, showing his ongoing commitment to the safety of his community.

Mr. Raab said," Chief Edmonds' effective leadership and dedication to this community made this an easy decision. He has protected this community for over 34 years, progressing through the ranks of the Department he now leads. I know that our community and police department are in good hands."

This full-time assignment to the role of Chief of Police was effective as of June 1 .
