Town of Front Royal Appoints Capt. Brian Whited as Next Police Chief

The Town of Front Royal is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Whited as the new Chief of Police. Captain Whited will officially assume his new role as Chief on November 1, 2024.

Captain Whited started his career with the Town in Refuse and Recycling in 1995 before transferring to Water and Sewer in 1996. However, his passion for public safety, which began in his teenage years as a volunteer with the Front Royal Fire Department, led him to pursue a career in law enforcement. While still working full-time for the Town, Captain Whited completed the auxiliary Police Academy through the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy. In 2002, he began serving as a certified officer for the Town of Front Royal.

During his tenure, Captain Whited has risen through the ranks, starting as a patrol officer before moving into the Northwest Virginia Regional Drug and Gang Task Force as a detective. He has held various positions of increasing responsibility, including Master Police Officer, Sergeant, and, most recently, Captain in 2023. His leadership roles have included serving as both Operations Captain and Logistics Captain, as well as the SWAT Commander, Crisis Negotiations Team Leader, and Lead Firearms Instructor.

In addition to his leadership experience, Captain Whited has successfully completed the prestigious FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) Trilogy Series and the Southern Police Institute for Managing a Small Law Agency. He has also played a pivotal role in implementing various projects into the community, enhancing public safety and technological integration for the department.

With over two decades of service, Captain Whited's commitment to protecting and serving the residents of Front Royal is unwavering. The Town is confident that his experience, dedication, and vision will continue to lead the Front Royal Police Department toward excellence.
