VACP & VACLEA Thank Virginia State Police Superintendent Col. Gary T. Settle for Law Enforcement Service
The VACP and VACLEA commend Colonel Settle for nearly four decades of public safety service to the Commonwealth.
After nearly four decades of public safety service, Virginia State Police Superintendent Colonel Gary T. Settle will be retiring effective February 1, 2025. “Gary Settle is a true friend to Virginia law enforcement,” said VACP President Scott Booth, Police Chief for the City of Roanoke. “He is a strong leader and a tremendous partner with Virginia local law enforcement. Colonel Settle has the respect and trust of all Virginia law enforcement. We will miss his professional guidance and assistance.”
VMI Police Chief Mike Marshall, President of the Virginia Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (VACLEA), noted that “Colonel Settle has been professionally dedicated to the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia for more than four decades. Colonel Settle has been instrumental in supporting Virginia college campuses with unlimited resources during critical incidents, sporting events, or VIP visits in order to ensure campus safety. The Colonel has been someone with whom the campus police chiefs have established strong relationships which have evolved into lasting partnerships.”
VACP and VACLEA commend Colonel Settle for conducting his roles and responsibilities with pride and loyalty that is second to none. His many accomplishments show his commitment to making communities safer. He also understands that wearing a badge is not a right but a privilege, and has respected the oath of office for his entire career. Colonel Settle's expertise and leadership will be missed but not forgotten.
The VACP and VACLEA thank Colonel Settle for his service and support of professional law enforcement within the Virginia State Police and with all of Virginia's law enforcement agencies.
