NVCC Police Chief Dan Dusseau Receives 2019 Governor's Honor Award

Governor Northam honored twenty-six state employees with the 2019 Governor's Honor Awards at an Executive Mansion ceremony.

RICHMOND (Sept. 18)—Governor Ralph Northam today announced the recipients of the 2019 Governor's Honor Awards during a ceremony at the Executive Mansion in Richmond. Previously named the Governor's Awards for Public Service, the awards were expanded this year to honor state employees in 11 categories who have demonstrated exemplary service and commitment to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

“These state employees embody the integrity, professionalism, innovation, and dedication that helps government deliver better results and services for the people of Virginia,” said Governor Northam. “We are fortunate to have such outstanding public servants working on behalf of Virginians each and every day, and I am pleased to celebrate their accomplishments and important contributions to our Commonwealth and our communities with these awards.”

“I am proud of our state employees and their commitment to public service,” said Secretary of Administration Keyanna Conner. “Whether improving schools, ensuring safety, rebuilding after disasters, providing health services, preserving the environment, or supporting veterans and military families, our employees get things done.”

Administration Excellence: Helping to transform the culture of the Commonwealth.
Chief Daniel Dusseau, Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC)

The chief's successes at NVCC have inspired law enforcement and academic administrative professionals at the local, state and national levels to improve personal and campus safety, advance the quality of the academic experience and enhance the recognition of law enforcement officers as valuable members of society. Among the numerous changes he implemented were establishing a state-of-the-art 24/7 dispatch center, which increased police responsiveness, expedited service to the community and centralized police operations for NVCC's six campuses. Chief Dusseau established a successful community outreach program and promulgated over 130 new General Orders in 2018 to improve/standardize police operations.
