Individuals and agencies are encouraged to nominate a deserving individual for one of the OAG's Unsung Hero awards in commemoration of National Crime Victims' Rights Week in April. The nomination deadline is Friday, February 21st.
The Office of the Attorney General is pleased to begin accepting nominations for the 2020 Unsung Hero Awards, an award program which recognizes outstanding service and support to victims of crime in the Commonwealth. Attorney General Mark Herring established these awards in 2017 to acknowledge those individuals across the state working tirelessly to aid victims in their recovery and healing, promote trauma-informed responses, challenge permissive or dismissive attitudes towards victims' issues, and affect change. Across the state, there are individuals doing critical, life-saving work with and on behalf of crime victims, work that often goes unnoticed and unacknowledged. Virginia's “Unsung Heroes” serve victims in many capacities: as officers responding to service calls, as advocates helping victims navigate the court system, as volunteers answering hotline calls, as survivors telling their stories so that others feel less alone. If you know someone who you believe should be honored for their commitment to victim services, nominate them as an Unsung Hero!
Completed nomination forms should be submitted to the OAG Victim Notification Program at VNP@oag.state.va.us by Friday, February 21st. Award winners will be honored at a ceremony during National Crime Victims' Rights Week in April.
