City of Poquoson Announces Stephen Keatts to Serve as City's Next Police Chief

Stephen Keatts is a 26-year veteran of the Roanoke City Police Department. He will assume his new position on October 13.
The City of Poquoson is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Stephen E. Keatts to serve as the City's next Chief of Police.  Mr. Keatts is a 26 year veteran of the City of Roanoke, Virginia Police Department serving most recently as the Investigations Bureau Captain.  During his career with the City of Roanoke, Mr. Keatts also served approximately six years as a lieutenant working in the Professional Standards, Support Services as well as Geographic and Community Policing.  Additionally Mr. Keatts served more than fifteen years in the Patrol Division, including seven as sergeant and two years as a School Resource Officer.
 
Mr. Keatts earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Radford University and holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from American Military University.  Additionally, Mr. Keatts completed the National Criminal Justice Command College in 2015 and attended the FBI-LEEDA Executive Leadership Academy in 2019.  Mr. Keatts will assume his new position on October 13, 2020 and looks forward to relocating to the City of Poquoson with his family.
 
The City of Poquoson would like to thank City of Hampton Police Chief Terry Sult and James City County Police Chief Brad Rinehimer for their participation and support in the selection process.  The City of Poquoson would also like to thank Mr. Percy Ward for his service as Acting Chief, following the retirement of Chief of Police Cliff Bowen August 1, 2020.
