Pat G. Minetti, 85, former Chief of Police for the City of Hampton, passed away Monday, August 27, 2018. Born in New Castle, PA he has been a resident of Hampton for over 63 years.
Chief Minetti retired from the Hampton Police Force in 2000 after 45 years, during which he was the Police Chief for 29 years.
As a believer in education, he received his Masters Degree from Harvard University in 1980, as well as other degrees from Golden Gate University, Old Dominion University and Christopher Newport College. He also taught classes at Christopher Newport College.
As a devout Catholic, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Buckroe where he also sang in the church choir.
Chief Minetti is survived by his wife of 61 years, Donnie W. Minetti; daughters, Toni Haaland (Mark) and Teri Smith; four grandchildren, Ryan (Kelly), Robyn (Greg), Kristin (Tyler) and Patrick and three great-grandchildren, Reagan, Jack, and Lyla.
The family will receive friends from 4-6:00 PM Friday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton, and from 10-11:00 AM Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 512 Buckroe Ave, in Hampton. Immediately following at 11:00 am, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Walter C. Barrett. Interment with Police Honors will be at a later date.
The family would like any expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to Saint Mary Star of the Sea School, 14 N. Willard Ave., Hampton, VA 23663.
