In Memoriam: NVCJTA Director David S. Vice

The Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy (NVCJTA) sadly and regretfully announces the untimely passing of their friend and colleague, Director David S. Vice on June 22, 2019.
Dave dedicated his life to law enforcement and law enforcement training.  Dave retired as a Captain with the Fairfax County Police Department in 2008.  Dave held leadership positions with the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy and the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy prior to being named Director of the NVCJTA in September 2016.

Dave has been described as a genuine person and all-around good guy. He will be remembered for his integrity, professionalism and dedication to this Academy.  He loved to interact with staff and students, tell a good story and just have fun. We join his wife Marsha and his children, Monica and Josh, and their families in grieving his loss.

HONOR GUARDS:
The Fairfax County Police Department Motor Squad and Honor Guard are coordinating with Dave's family regarding participation in the services. See below.

Regional Honor Guard Coordinators,

Sergeant Beverly Sellers (Fairfax County Police) will be working with the family and agencies assisting with coordination of the Honor Guard units who wish to participate in the Memorial Service for David S. Vice. The service will be at the following time and location:

Memorial Service --- JUNE 28, 2019 --- Check in time: 0730 for Dress Rehearsal at 0800

All Saints Catholic Church
9300 Stonewall Road
Manassas, VA  20110

Because of Dave's involvement with many jurisdictions, we are hoping to assemble a multi-jurisdictional Police Honor Guard to present colors jointly during the service. This will be a service only at the church.  No gravesite internment after.

Sergeant Sellers is requesting each of your agencies send a full honor guard team of 4 or more members to participate. Please have your assigned team members bring the respective flags/holders/and any other equipment they may require.  FCPD will have some extra gear on hand as needed. Because this is a service, we request NO Taps. In addition, Fairfax County PD will be handling the church service portion.

Please send an email to Beverly.Sellers@fairfaxcounty.gov to let her know if you will be sending HG representatives.

On the day of the service, please have your team members report to the above address at 07:30 for a joint team rehearsal at 0800. Fairfax County PD will keep movements and commands simple since there will be many teams participating.

Also, Sergeant Sellers will be working on a room at the church for HG participants to change and will be your point of contact for coordination at the church.

If any questions, please feel free to call or email: Sgt. Beverly Sellers -- PH: 571-251-2376
