Virginia Law Enforcement Assistance Program has partnered with New River Valley Community Services to co-host/sponsor an International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) Critical Incident Stress Management Training, also known as peer training. The 3-day training includes two ICISF courses – the Basic Group Crisis Intervention course and the Assisting Individuals in Crisis course, with the optional ICISF course Suicide Prevention, Intervention and Postvention.  Class will be held from 8am-5pm with a one hour lunch from 12pm-1pm.  These courses serve as the training foundation for many agencies with Law Enforcement Peer Support programs and has seen use by many Virginia community service boards as a disaster mental health model. This is also requisite training for peers involved with VALEAP’s CISM Team, and is designed for emergency responders in all disciplines.

VALEAP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was established in 2008 following the 2007 Virginia Tech mass shooting and the 2006 tragedy at the Fairfax County Police Sully Station.  Since that time, VALEAP has served thousands of law enforcement professionals throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and other states. Their mission is to aid law enforcement professionals in improving and maintaining their mental health so they can be at their best throughout their career and retire mentally healthy.  The services provided by VALEAP are 100% confidential in accordance with Virginia Code §19.2-271.4. Privileged communications by certain public safety personnel  (https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title19.2/chapter16/section19.2-271.4/).   To learn more about VALEAP and view upcoming events at http://www.valeap.org/
