The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) is seeking a talented professional Executive Director to take the Association to the next level of service.  The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer in charge of the operation of the Association located in Duluth, Georgia.  The Executive Director is responsible for and empowered to conduct the business of the Association, in accordance with policies and regulations established and directed by the Executive Board.  The Executive Director will be a dedicated team player who can quickly gain the confidence of the Association membership and demonstrate an approachable personality that exercises patience while engaging members that have great interest in and high expectations of their Association.  Must be able to travel within the state to fulfill duties of the position and limited out of state travel is also required. 
Responsibilities of the position include:  Informs the President and the Executive Board on the conditions and operations of the Association; attends all meetings of the Executive Board and plans and coordinates all Executive Board meetings; plans and coordinates programs and activities; develops and supervises an effective program of membership development and membership services; manages the finances of the Association, including the preparation of an annual budget and long-range forecasts of needs; oversees the development and implementation of income enhancement programs; develops and coordinates an education program to advance the professional/ technical/managerial skills of the membership; organizes and conducts annual and semi-annual conferences; coordinates research and informs the Executive Board, elected officials and the membership; maintains effective internal and external public relations, serves as spokesperson for the Association; maintains an effective government affairs program to represent the interests of the Association membership to legislative bodies, government agencies and other professional associations as appropriate; administers an effective personnel program, recruits, hires, and trains staff for the Association.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to embrace change and help guide the Association through important challenges, articulate a vision of excellence, establish credibility and consistency in delivery of services to the members of the Association, motivate others to embrace cultural diversity, and provide creative problem solving for the Association.    

  Minimum qualifications for the Executive Director, include:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, law enforcement, police administration, criminal justice, political science or related field.  Master’s degree preferred;
  • Five (5) years of senior management/command staff experience in directing, coordinating, supervising, and overseeing the work of personnel in an agency with similar complexity as GACP, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that meet qualifications; and must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Graduate of the FBI Academy; Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Program or Command Officer Development Program desired, but not required; comparable specialized police leadership/management training in ethics, integrity, emergency management, cultural/generational diversity, problem solving and community policing will also be considered. 
 Compensation & Benefits include:
