Job Summary
Serves as a Specialized Crime Unit (SCU) member preventing and mitigating risk from various types of incidents that could impact the financial health of CSX Transportation (CSXT) including ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty through prevention of crime against shipments in the care, custody, and control of CSXT. Supports the general mission of the police department, prevents crime, and protects the interests of CSXT. Work concurrently with all CSXT police, Special Agent In Charge (SAIC's), Supervisory Special Agent (SSA's), Special Agents and Rapid Response Team members.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

  • Gather intelligence, investigate, and network with outside agencies. Develop and maintain a solid working relationship with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
  • Monitor high value shipments and validate the integrity of loads working in conjunction with local CSXT police forces, intermodal operations and contract security where applicable.
  • Interact regularly with CSX Intermodal (CSXI) Terminal Managers to ascertain needed information pertaining to criminal activity involving intermodal shipments.
  • Work jointly with local, state, federal, and foreign line rail police to ensure the apprehension and prosecution of persons who commit crimes on, or against, the railroad.
  • Investigate crimes on or against the railroad which includes thefts, fraud, vandalism, derailments, signal damage, track obstructions, and escort and protect CSX trains and the traveling public on Amtrak and commuter rail operations on CSX tracks.
  • Provide essential and physical protection to sensitive rail shipments including but not limited to military shipments, munitions, spent nuclear fuel, and NASA shipments. Protect the national strategic rail network vital to national defense and interstate commerce.
  • Provide expert security guidance to internal and external customers, with emphasis on intermodal operations and terminals.
  • Serve as a security consultant when called upon by customers as it relates to theft and theft prevention issues, recommending appropriate preventive measures where possible.
  • Take part, as required, in joint theft task force operations and develop and work with informants.
  • Monitor theft and loss activity and identify current trends and locations of occurrence.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree/2-year Degree
  • 3 or more years of experience in Major Investigations, Specialized Crime, Cargo Theft, Organized Crime, Intermodal Operations, or Environmental Crimes
  • Certified Law Enforcement Officer

  • High School Diploma/GED

Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) guidelines and environmental crimes.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of intermodal operations.
  • Knowledge of organized crime as it relates to cargo theft.
  • Ability to retain security information in confidence.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and investigations without compromise.
  • Ability to pass all required state requirements.
  • Understand and interpret C-TPAT guidelines as they apply to international container shipments.
  • Understand and demonstrate proper handling of in-bond shipments.
