Assistant Director, Public Safety Information Systems
The University Police Department (UPD) at Old Dominion University is accepting applications for an Assistant Director, Public Safety Information Systems (Information Technology Specialist III) position. Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for managing and coordinating activities related to new information technology projects and major enhancements of existing systems, equipment and/or technology infrastructures under the purview of the University Police Department (UPD). This position also provides leadership and oversight to those responsible for the day to day management of various communications, physical security, access control, surveillance, panic/alarm monitoring, information infrastructure, and other associated systems. This position also collaborates and partners closely with ITS and FM&C in the development of processes, policies, procedures, and construction specifications used to ensure the security of the associated data and facilities to ensure safety and continuity of rights permissions, and access of operations in these systems.

Requirements Required Qualifications: Considerable experience managing physical security monitoring systems. Considerable experience with the installation of new hardware/software as well as upgrading existing hardware/software. Considerable experience with networks, PCs and communication systems. Some experience with project management. Extensive knowledge of access control solutions, IP based physical security systems, and remote surveillance/monitoring technologies. Considerable knowledge of information systems data management and security practices and techniques for law enforcement. Basic knowledge of database programming and query design. Demonstrated project management and training skills. Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to interact with vendors and co-workers. Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage time and people. Demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot, resolve problems, and document problems. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate policies, practices, and procedures to external and internal customers. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to provide technical and project leadership to other staff members.
Required Training: Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record. Must obtain Crime Prevention Though Environmental Design (CPTED) certification and VCIN certification within one year of hire. Required to pass police background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, or a related discipline. Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted. Familiarization with multiple layers of physical security, certifications in related fields. Crime Prevention Specialist Certification.
Conditions of Employment: Must be able to work a 40-hour work week and travel as required. A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the final candidate. This position is designated as essential personnel and required to report to work during official University closings.
