Records and Property and Evidence Manager
The City of Lexington is accepting applications for the non-exempt full-time position of Records and Property and Evidence Manager for the Lexington Police Department.
Performs responsible clerical and technical work in coding, reporting, filing and researching public records. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the deputy chief of police.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
- Enters all incident and offense reports into computerized records keeping system;
- Enters all changes, updates and supplements to these reports;
- Assigns UCR numbers, codes complaints, arrest, offense and traffic reports;
- Answers telephone, provides information, assists the general public;
- Updates records subsequent to court citations;
- Prepares, researches and maintains data and records;
- Assists in the preparation of periodic and special reports;
- Verifies statistical and other records for accuracy and completeness;
- Runs tags for unpaid parking tickets on a weekly basis;
- Receives impounded property and evidence from police officers;
- Performs physical inventories;
- Releases property and evidence to designated personnel following prescribed procedures;
- Works with possible contaminated blood and property using protective equipment;
- Works with sensitive evidence;
- Collects, produces, and maintains written documents with clearly organized thoughts;
- Maintains computer records regarding the disposition of evidence and other impounded property;
- Sorts, separates, and arranges files and distribute property dispositions;
- Returns property to owners as required and dispose of property in the prescribed manner;
- Testifies in legal proceedings regarding the security and chain of possession of evidence;
- Performs related and clerical tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- General knowledge of modern police record keeping procedures and practices;
- Thorough knowledge of police forms, terminology, and records;
- General knowledge of departmental programs, policies and procedures;
- Ability to perform a considerable volume of detailed record work;
- Ability to maintain files;
- Ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed;
- Ability to speak distinctly and hear clearly;
- Ability to operate general office and data entry equipment;
- Ability to follow written and oral directions;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, and some experience in general clerical and data entry work.
