Police Officer
The Virginia Port Authority is seeking applicants for the position of Police Officer. The duties of a Port Police officer consist of enforcing traffic and criminal laws and federal maritime regulations, responding to calls for service, and conducting high-visibility patrols on our marine terminals located in Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Newport News, Va.

Requirements Responsibilities
  • Enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the safety rules established by the Port of Virginia
  • Ensure the lawful flow of commerce through the Port of Virginia.
  • Perform patrols of designated areas by foot and vehicle.  
  • Community policing.
  • Rendering emergency first aid
  • Work alongside federal law enforcement partners.
  • Boarding cargo vessels.
  • Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.  
  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to customers, employees, and visitors.  
  • Ensure compliance with all security, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.
 
Qualification
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States of America.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical & drug screening.
  • Have no felony convictions.
  • No misdemeanor conviction involving drugs, domestic violence, or moral turpitude
  • No other misdemeanor convictions within the last five years
  • Must be of good moral character.
  • No facial, neck, ear, scalp, or hand tattoo
